This is an impressionable period for sensory perception, language, and order.  The class follows a structured daily schedule.  Work time activities include hands-on introduction to colors, shapes, letters, sounds and textures.  Group time activities include a daily song about the calendar, introduction to new works, story time, and sharing.  At this early stage of development the children are able to learn an incredible amount given the opportunity.

The preschool rooms set up with 60-70 different hands-on works. Each work is created using items that catch and hold the child's attention. The works are organized on shelves by math, language, practical life, and art and have a wide range of difficulty. For example, the language shelf will have a range of works from an introduction of letters to beginning reading books. During work time the students are free to choose their own works. As the teacher works with each student and sees that the student is becoming proficient with that particular work, the student is encouraged to move on to a more challenging work. Each month new works are introduced so that there is always something new to keep the students attention.

Our kindergarten program is full day (9:00 - 3:00) program. The program further develops the language, math and science skills of the students, as well as the social interaction between students. As with the younger classes, activities are structured on an individual basis to match each child's level.

During the regular school year we offer drop off and pick up at Deer Creek and Templeton Elementary. We also provide care for students from Alberta Rider Elementary as we are on the bus route. After arriving at TLC in the afternoon, students are offered a nutritious snack. They then have free time with their choice of games, computers, art, or homework. Students with homework are encouraged to work on their homework (unless their parents wish to do it at home with them) and will receive assistance as needed.

During the summer, spring break and in-service days, we offer either a part day or full day schedule. The day is divided into work time, free time and recess. During work time reading, writing, math and science skills are explored and expanded on an individual basis with the goal of maintaining and progressing skill levels through the summer months while still having fun.

Preschool (Monday & Thursday between 9 and 10am) and kindergarten (Tuesday & Thursday 11am) have Spanish lessons twice a week. The lessons are based on the monthly theme.

Each class has a scheduled recess time. Recess is held either in the gymnasium or, weather permitting, the large outside play area. This daily activity is important for the development of gross motor skills and coordination.
